[English]How to Use Ttareungi, Seoul Public Bike(fee system, forms of payment)

Ttareungi is a public bicycle rental service operated by the city. It is very convenient to use in Seoul because there are bicycle rental stations at each major base, including around subway stations.

To rent one, download and install the mobile app "Seoul Bike(Ttareungi)" > Register membership > Select payment method. After purchasing a pass you are ready to use Tareungi anytime.

In this article, I will introduce 1_How to Sign up and Use Ttareungi, 2_Types of Pass, Fee, and Additional Charge, 3_Temporary Lock and Return Method.

 

1_ How to sign up and use Ttareungi 

1. Download and Install the app
Search for the  app in the App Store or Google Play Store.

Download this app.

2. Membership registration
Click Sign up on the left side at the bottom of the main screen, and select 14 years of age or older for "Sign-up". If you link your SNS account, you can easily log in without entering password.

There is a Sessak Ttareungi(meaning sprout Ttareungi with 20 inch-wheel colored fluorescent yellow), which 13-year-old can use, but only when signing up for membership through their parent's certification. Under the age of13 are not permitted to use Ttareungi. 

3. Forms of payment
Currently, payment methods are credit card(including debit card), Zero Pay, mobile micropayment, easy payment. Foreigners can purchase with a credit card issued overseas or with a Discover Seoul Pass.

 

4. User guideline 
①When you log in, the number of bicycles in your neighborhood appears on the main page map. Click the circle to see how many ttareungs are at where you want to rent. 
②Choose a bike
▶Tips for choosing a bike_check the saddle first. The height adjustment lock varies from bicycle to bicycle, and there are some comfortable and uncomfortable ones. Check if it's adjusted to your height. Even after adjusting the height of the saddle, if the lock is loose,  the saddle may be unstable. Next, skim through the whole bike to see if there are any broken parts such as reflection lights or baskets.
③Click 'Rent' below the map to scan the QR code or enter a five-digit bicycle number.

2_Type of Pass, Fee, and Additional charge

1. Type of Pass
Currently, there are daily and season pass available. Previously, there were group pass available for two to five people at a time, which  ended as of March 2023. Only one bike can be rented per One mobile phone. Foreigners can purchase 3 types of passes: 1 day pass(60 mins.), 1 day pass(120 mins.), all day pass(24 hours)

2. Rental fee
Season pass is much cheaper than daily pass. If you expect the frequeunt use, you can save money by purchasing a season pass.

One-day Pass
1 hour	1,000 won
2 hour	2,000 won
Season Pass
7-day pass	3,000 won
30-day pass	5,000 won
180-day pass	15,000 won
365-day pass	30,000 won

▶ The additional charge is 200 won per 5 minutes. Surcharges will be automatically withdrawn or charged to the registered payment method.

3. How to avoid surcharges when using a season pass
Season passes are tickets that you can rent indefinitely and repeatedly during the period of use after the first rental. However, if you rent a bike over an hour at a time, you will get to pay an additional charge. Not to pay extra charge, go to the nearest rental station before an hour passes and re-rent after returning the bike immediately. When the survice time is 10 minute left, you'll get a Kakaotalk message saying, "10 minutes left before the return time." It doesn't matter if you re-rent the bike you were already using or how many time you repeat to re-rent.  

4. Ttareungi X T-money GO Collaboration
You can transfer within 30 minutes of Ttareungi, Singsingi(Kickboard), public transportation, express/intercity buses, and receive rewards. First, install the T-money GO app and register your transportation card. In addition to T-money (t-money card, T-money pay, mobile T-money), you can also register a check/credit card.
Then you will get a 20% discount coupon and be able to save up to 4000 won purchasing a season pass. In addition, if you use and return Ttareungi for more than 3 minutes at T-Money GO, you will receive 100M points a day within 2 days. For more information, please contact 1644-9255.

Step 3_Temporary Lock and Return Method

1. Temporary Lock
The only difference between temporary lock and return is where the bike is parked. If you pull down the locking lever at a place other than rental stations, it will be temporarily locked. So, if you need to stop by a store or leave the bike for a while, just pull down lever at a place other than rental stations. To unlock it, Open up the app and press "Rent" and then "Unlock it temporarily 임시잠금 해제". Then It will be unlocked immediately. 
▶ precaution: The  service time will continue to be calculated during the temporary lock. For instance, If you take a 10-minute ride and temporarily lock it for 50 minutes, an hour of survice time is over. You can always check the rental time on the app, and you can return and re-rent if the rental period is left. 

 

2. Return
Park the bike at any rental stations and lower the lock lever. Please make sure you hear a 'Returned' notification from the bike. When it was not locked properly and get surcharged, just contact customer center 1599-0120 and it will be easily solved.
